History
Years ago, there was a substantial achievement gap at Springfield Township High School. There were multiple factors to this gap in educational success within minority students, but the most apparent one was the lack of cultural diversity within the school. Due to this, minority students felt restricted. This all changed through the creation of the Voices of Excellence club.
One year following the creation of VOE, the achievement gap unprecedentedly dropped from 20% to 8%. Through conversation, support, and activities such as the Showcase and stepping, minority students had a new drive. A drive that increased their success rate, and lifestyles.
Today, we are focused less on the assimilation, and more on the adaptation of the school itself. Through the efforts of VOE and its events, each day minority students move towards a place of comfort within the school. And the hope is that within years, the school will become a place where people of different backgrounds and interests can flourish on equal grounds.
